E H Ranson & Co is a privately owned and managed family business that was established in Edinburgh in 1894. Please see about us.

The products that we offer

We take great care to ensure that we have access, to a sufficiently wide range of good quality insurers, to ensure that our advice is appropriate to the needs of our clients.

Our main exception to the above relates to the provision of Legal Fees insurance. In this case, in view of the low-cost nature of the protection, we provide the product of a single insurer. However this position is reviewed on an annual basis to ensure that the product continues to provide good value at an appropriate price.

We undertake to inform a client if we feel unable to provide independent and expert advice on any particular issue.

We only offer products from RAC Motoring Services and DAS Legal Expenses Insurance Co Ltd for Personal and Commercial legal fees insurances, including uninsured loss recovery. Please see Motor, Household & Personal and Commercial for more information about our range of products.

The services we provide In addition to the establishment of insurance policies, we provide ongoing support and advice whilst they remain in force. This service includes making arrangements with insurers to ensure that any alterations are correctly completed.

In addition, where relevant and appropriate, we provide a full insurance broking service when a policy falls due for renewal.

Claims Service

As a quite normal part of our service we are delighted to offer assistance and advice in the event of a loss or claim covered by an insurance policy that we have arranged.

However, in the case of most motor insurance policies, we try to place our clients with insurers who offer direct claims service on a 24/7 basis. Most of these services provide immediate help with the relevant contact phone numbers shown in the insurers’ policy information that is supplied to each client.

Some insurers now offer similar levels of claims service in relation to their home and other insurance products.

What to do if you have a complaint

If you wish to register a complaint please contact us –

• By phone – 0131 225 9136.

If you cannot settle your complaint with us you may be entitled to refer it to the Financial Ombudsman Service.

The Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS)

We are covered by the FSCS. You may be entitled to compensation from the scheme if we cannot meet our obligations. This depends on the type of business and the circumstances of the claim.

Insurance advising and arranging are covered for 90% of the claim without an upper limit.
